Walrus Fisheries is a small family-run business based in Ilfracombe harbour supplying north Devon lobster to wholesale, retail and seafood restaurants. We source top quality lobster from boats that make up the small fishing fleet within the harbour and who use traditional potting methods to catch along the North Devon coastline as far as Lundy Island.
Our quayside premises allow us to transfer each day's catches directly from the boats to our seawater holding tanks within minutes. No transportation or prolonged time out of water means that our lobsters remain in the best condition possible. Lobsters are then sorted, graded and then supplied to our customers in prime condition at a time and date that is convenient to them.
In quantities of 1kg to 800kg....
We operate from April until mid-December with peak catching season between June and September. Our prices per kilo fluctuate throughout the year and are based on current market prices. We ensure that the boats we buy from are getting a fair price for their catch over the whole season. We are able to supply in quantities up to 800kg of mixed lobster and our quayside premises are situated in an ideal position for ease of collection and loading, especially by large vehicles. The usual size range of our catches are 0.5kg to 1.5kg - with a small proportion of lobsters above 1.5kg.
